The size of handwriting is one of the main features of the writer. There are many different measurements we take when we analyze a sample of handwriting. In general the overall size of handwriting is about 9mm for average size writing. This includes the three different zones.[Refer to the page on zones]

There are many different sizes in reference to graphology. The sizes of the letters and letter portions are just one aspect. Sizes also apply to margins, letter spacing, word spacing, line spacing, and capital letters.

The more outgoing and gregarious personalities tend to have larger handwriting while in general smaller writing tends to be more introverted, humble, shy, modest and unassuming.

Some small handwriting has little to do with introversion; instead, it is associated with scientists. They tend to write very small. Small and especially quick writing is a product of focus, intense concentration and self disciplice. All these personality traits are commonplace with individuals within the scientific communities. Since handwriting is a reflection of the personality; it follows that it would appear in their handwritings and it does. We call this science writing; the differences between this and the humble person is derived from the other aspects of the handwriting.

Larged sized writers lack this concentration and focus, and their attention span is limited. They tend to need to try new things to excite them, while small size writers are intent on burying themselves in their work and tend to have just a few interests that they do exceptionally well.

The key factors reflecting letter formation size is the relationship or the proportion between the three different zones. We refer to this relationship as tri-zonal balance. [Refer to the page on zones for further explanation]

When the middle zone is over emphasized; the writer tends to value their social life more. They can be swayed by the opinions of others, live for today, and if very large; then they can be egotistical.

When the lower zone is over emphasized; then the person is interested in physical and sexual activities, or materialism. This at the expense of intellectual and spiritual aspects of life. Their social interactions are often based on their own personal needs.

The intellect or philosopher will tend to have a large upper zone. It is not always the case, but often enough it is. They may sacrifice social interactions for the benefit of their work. This will be displayed with a small middle zone, or it may be their own physical and material desires.

To determine if a zone is over or under sized; we measure the middle zone, and then figure out the ratio between the other two zones and the middle zone.

I discussed the size of capital letters in another page, however, they should be at least as tall as the upper zone letters if not a little bigger.

The width of letters is another very important factor in analyzing handwriting. Letter width is determined by the height of the middle zone in proportion to its width. Wide letter width indicates a person that is adventurous and open. Narrow letter width identify inhibitions and fear. There are writers who write with both narrow and wide letters; depending on the letter. This gives us insight into where the inhibitions are coming from.

Besides letter width, another feature of the size of the writing is in letter spacing. This is the distance between letters. Here the speed the writer is writing at must be taken into consideration. The faster the hand, the wider the letter spacing will tend to be. This doesn't apply so much to letter width because the writer must slow down to prepare the letter formation.

In general though, wide letter spacing shows an adventurous and fearless personality. If the writing is also pastose; then we have the combination of the thrill seeker. People who write with wide letter spacing reach out to the world and to others. They ask for help when they need it, and are willing to try new things. They lack inhibition.

Conversely, narrow letter spacing betrays the type of person who tries to do it all themselves. They find it difficult to ask others for help. They don't venture far from that which they are comfortable with.

Size is relative to the three zones
Large handwriting tend to be extroverts
Large handwriting tend to try many interests
Small handwriting are either introverts or scientists
Small handwriting will have few interests, but focus passionately on them
Overmphasized zones mean that that area is more important to the writer
Under emphasized zones mean the person is not interested in those aspects of life
Narrow width in letters and between letters betray inner inhibitions and fear
Wide width in letters and between letters indicate adventurous spirit and relying on others

Important Note: Remember this is just a very basic explanation of this particular aspect of handwriting. It is expressly for the purpose to show the validity by explaining this complex science in simplistic terms.

Do not attempt to analyze a person's handwriting with just the information stated above. Graphology is a hollistic science; one characteristic on its own is fairly meaningless unless an extreme or coroborated with other graphology traits.

Leave handwriting analysis to the experts like us. It takes years to be highly trained and skilled in this field, and to learn, study, and recognize all the graphological traits that incorporate this science.
